Bike Skills for the Goldfields Track & Beyond - part 1

Been riding off road and want to refine and extend you skills?

Want to build confidence and efficiency for longer rides and to try some more challenging trails?

Learn the what, why and how’s of riding on single track and the Goldfields Track.

Suitable for those with a bit of off-road riding experience through to seasoned riders.

Some fitness is required due to the terrain accessed but there will be ample time for stops and “workshopping” skills on the track and fire roads.

Session 1 of a 2 part series - sign up to one or both for progressive fundamental skills learning.

There is a time for explanation, practice, feedback and questions. Small group size (6 riders).

  • 9:00am to 12:00pm

Who this is for:

  • All genders welcome

  • Ages 16 to older adults

  • Suitable for mountain bikes (either rigid, front suspension or dual suspension)

  • Those with equipment as listed in below section

Included:

  • Skills Instruction by qualified GSMBC MTB Coach with Wilderness First Aid certification (Natalya, she/her)

Content may include:

  • How to use your body position for more control and stability when riding descents and corners

  • How to slow down and stop using your brakes for control, slow and confidence

*specific skills taught will depend on participant’s riding experience

Cost:

$120.00 per person

Limited to 6 riders (maximum of 3 riders to go ahead)

    • How to use your body position for ascents (climbing)

    • How to use gears for smooth cadence and energy efficiency

    *specific skills taught will depend on participant’s riding experience

Equipment needed

  • Well maintained bicycle suitable for off-road riding (e.g. Fully rigid, Front suspension, Dual suspension) with gears, brakes, suspension, chain all in good working condition - checked off at Rad Cycles and Gear or provide evidence of a recent service.

  • Helmet that meets Australian, European or US Safety Standards (no cracks, well fitted)

  • Drink bottle (and a way to carry water when riding - either in a bottle holder or hydration backpack)

  • Clothing suitable for riding conditions (wind and wet weather, sun safe) and protection (knee and elbow pads and glasses are recommended)

  • Closed shoes (with or without cleats, MTB flats or sports shoes with a stiff sole)

  • Gloves (full-finger gloves are our preference) 

  • Basic tools - for changing a flat tyre and trailside mechanical repairs relevant to your bike set up (e.g. pump and spare tube, C02 canister and applicator, tubeless patch repair, tyre levers, multitool, chain breaker, chain link)
